These oral history interviews with Naji Haraj were conducted on August 24th and 25th, 2017. Naji was born in Saqlawiyah, Iraq – approximately 5 miles from Fallujah. As an adult, he worked in the Iraqi Foreign Ministry as a diplomat from 1980 to 2003, when he resigned in opposition to the occupation of his country. Today Naji is the Executive Director of the Geneva International Centre for Justice.
The interviewer, Ross Caputi, requested that Naji tell his story in Arabic, so as not to impose any English language media discourse tropes or categories onto Naji’s narration.
